What is An Oracle Deck?
The Spirit Animal Oracle deck is an oracle deck and not a Tarot deck. Oracle decks differ from Tarot decks as they can be about anything and don’t have to follow a specific structure.
Because of the wide variety of oracle decks out there, there is something for everyone. They often will teach us about spirituality and how we can work on ourselves in a positive way.

When I first heard about this deck I was really excited about it. The modern world can make us disconnect from nature and animals, and this oracle deck is a beautiful and accessible way to reconnect and learn.
The box is made of thick cardboard and its front is actually a lid that you can lift up and unfold, revealing the guidebook and the deck underneath it. I really like the unboxing of this and how it opens, it feels as if you are unfolding a little bit of magic!
On the inside of the box, we are told that ‘the spirits residing in the natural world have much to share and the secrets of their forgotten language are now available to you’. This really sets the scene for the deck and reminds us why we are here; to learn and grow with nature.
The ribbon makes it easy to take the cards and the guidebook out of the box. The box is really sturdy which means you can store the deck and guidebook when not using them.
I really like the pastel colors on the box and the designs that follow through the packaging and deck.
The guidebook
The guidebook is about the size of the cards and of decent thickness. The contents are printed in black and white ink and card descriptions are fairly detailed.
You will also find instructions on how to use this deck and a few spreads, which is really useful if you are new to oracle decks.
The Spirit Animal Oracle deck works with reversed cards, and these are described in detail in the guidebook. If the card is reversed, the message is one of protection. This means that when you are using the deck, you will have to pay extra attention to what this card is trying to tell you.
The Cards
Each card in the Spirit Animal Oracle deck has a picture of a certain animal and a message of advice that the animal is wishing to convey. Because the message of the animals is written on the card, you can read this deck intuitively without having to consult the guidebook too much. Each hint message on the cards can spark your imagination and guide you in the right direction.
The cards are quite big and thick, which is common for oracle cards published by Hay House. They feel strong and high-quality, which means you aren’t too worried about overusing them.
When you flip each card over, you are greeted with a pastel mandala design. I really like the use of colors in this oracle deck and how calming they make you feel. I also like the mandala patterns that are contained on certain cards in the deck. They really make the cards feel spiritual and wise.
Doing readings with the Spirit Animal Oracle deck is easy and fun! It is a really good deck to pick a card out each morning in order to guide you. But, you can also do spreads with cards that guide you generally in life.
Using the Cards in a Spread
I thought it would be a nice idea to use the Spirit Animal Oracle deck for a spread to show you how you may want to work with it. I decided to take out three cards to see how the animal spirits can guide me. For this general reading, I got the Wolf, the Cat, and the Crow.
The Wolf is reminding me to listen to all the knowledge and experience I have acquired. Because of my experiences, I am wise. Because the Cat follows, it is telling me that my wisdom and knowledge have made me free and independent.
The Crow is telling me that my wisdom and independence have made me closer to my spirit. It reminds me that I must create, grow, and follow the path to spiritual enlightenment.
As you can see, it is really easy to read with these cards intuitively. The images on them are so beautiful and all contain brilliant energy of wisdom and guidance.
