What are the odds of getting into NYU if you are waitlisted? ›

Yet from the waitlist admissions statistics NYU has shared — for the Classes of 2016 through 2014 (only the total number of applicants waitlisted were released for the Class of 2017) — the school's waitlist admission rate has ranged from a low of 7.87% to a high of 52.36%.

But looking at similar schools, waitlist acceptance rates vary widely, from 5% to 20%. The number of students NYU pulls from the waitlist can really swing. There was a year when NYU didn't admit anyone from the waitlist, and other times, they've accepted hundreds.

The only thing we ask of our applicants is to respond to our waitlist offer online by the date outlined in your waitlist offer letter. You should not submit any new letters of recommendation, writing samples, resumes, certificates, DVDs, CDs, photos, or additional information.

If you are certain that no other program except your first choice program will be an option, you can request to be put on a wait list. By going on the wait list, you will be forfeiting your spot in your second choice or any other available program. The wait list is not a first come first serve process.

The meaning of waitlisted is pretty simple: you haven't been offered acceptance, nor have you been rejected. You are currently being held on a waitlist and might eventually be accepted if a spot opens up. Schools use the waiting list to deal with the uncertainty of the admissions process.

4. Waitlist. Students may also be placed on our waitlist during Early Decision I and Early Decision II.

A waitlist indicates that a class is currently at capacity and, instead of closing, is compiling a list of students who are waiting to get into the course in the event that other students drop it. Please note that adding yourself to a course's waitlist is not the same as enrolling in the course.

It is true that some colleges may waitlist overqualified students. This practice is known as yield protection, and its purpose is to ensure that the college maintains a high yield rate, which refers to the percentage of accepted students who actually attend.

Waitlist acceptances can occur gradually from May through July and sometimes even into August, right before the school year begins. However, it's important to note that not all students on the waitlist will be admitted, and some colleges may admit only a few or none at all in certain years.

A college may put you on a waitlist. This can happen when you meet the admissions requirements, but the college has already accepted the number of applicants it has room for. If a spot becomes available later on, you may be offered a place.

Deferred and Waitlisted Students

That correspondence will include grades from the second semester of your senior year. Colleges and universities look for consistency or improvement when you're in this position, so don't slack.

NYU historically releases Early Decision (ED) results in mid-December. If you're looking for a specific time of day, it's common for decisions to be posted in the applicant portals in the late afternoon to early evening, Eastern Time. For example, it might be around 5 PM to 7 PM EST.

You'll then hear back by December 15. For Early Decision II, your NYU admissions deadline is January 1, and NYU admissions will release decisions on February 15.

How do I access my admissions decision? NYU releases your admissions decision online via your application status page. When your decision is ready to view, you will receive an email letting you know an update is available.

You should also have a 3.8 GPA or higher. If your GPA is lower than this, you need to compensate with a higher SAT/ACT score. For a school as selective as NYU, you'll also need to impress them with the rest of your application. We'll cover those details next.

It's definitely possible to get accepted into NYU with a 3.7 GPA, as long as you have a strong overall profile.
